Music Mondays: What I’m Listening To

If you are looking for some new tunes, look no further!  I have put together a list of a few artists that I am currently playing on repeat.  Read on for some music suggestions!

If you haven’t heard Lea Michele’s debut album “Louder” yet, now is your chance!  If you’ve seen Glee, you know this girl has serious pipes and an unparalleled voice.  Her first album has been in the works for a while and it is finally here!  Expect some fun dance tunes, but also some songs that will really tug at your heartstrings.  Best Tracks:  Cannonball (her single), You’re Mine, Battlefield, If You Say So (about her last conversation with Cory), (honorable mention: Burn With You)

If you are not listening to Kacey Musgraves, that needs to change.  ASAP.  This girl is brilliant.  She has such a beautifully unique voice that is perfect for country music lovers, but also country music haters.  You really should be listening to her.  She is known for telling it like it is, so expect some blunt honesty in her songs.  Best Tracks:  Follow Your Arrow, Merry Go Round, Blowin’ Smoke, My House, (honorable mention: Stupid)

You may remember Colton Dixon from American Idol.  His debut album “A Messenger” was released last year but he put out an expanded edition this year with new songs and several remixes.  His music is heavily influenced by his Christian faith, but don’t let that deter you if you are not the same.  His music offers hope and encouragement for anyone going through a struggle.  Think of Switchfoot, Lifehouse, or Daughtry.  Best Tracks: (literally they’re all my fave but check out…) Never Gone, Scars, In and Out of Time (sounds like it could be a Muse song!), Let Them See You, (honorable mention: You Are)

I’ve got another country girl for ya: Cassadee Pope, former The Voice champion.  She released her debut album “Frame By Frame” last year and has been getting some radio play with her single, “Wasting All These Tears.”  If you’re looking for a song to scream at the top of your lungs, that may be the one.  Cassadee sings about everything from fun nights to love to champagne to dealing with divorce.  You’re bound to find a song that fits what you’re looking for!  Best Tracks: Wasting All These Tears, 11, This Car, Good Times (honorable mention: I Wish I Could Break Your Heart)

My last country artist, I promise!  Brett Eldredge opened for my girl Taylor Swift on her RED tour last year but has since become a country radio star!  Not only is he not bad on the eyes, but he has a deep, twangy voice that you won’t want to turn off.  His catchy tunes definitely get me in the mood for summer.  Something about country music just screams summer to me!  Best Tracks:  Don’t Ya, Beat of the Music, One Mississippi, Bring You Back, (honorable mention: Raymond)

This is a band you may not have heard of, but you will be so thankful that you have now!  Unfortunately, one of their members was the late Cory Monteith.  However, believing Cory would have wanted them to carry on, Bonnie Dune released their EP “Miramar.”  I really enjoy their music because it’s very chill.  As for best tracks, their EP only has 6 songs so listen to them all and decide for yourself, but I really like Endless Summer and Shadow of a Man.

Brandon & Leah easily win the award for cutest musical couple ever.  Their names might not sound familiar, but you likely know their extended family.  Brandon Jenner is Bruce Jenner’s son!  If you’ve been watching Keeping Up with the Kardashians this past season, you may have seen these two make a few appearances.  They are not only the most precious married couple ever, but they are insanely talented.  Their music is soulful and relaxing and makes you want to just sail away to Hawaii.  Again, there’s like 5 songs on their EP “Cronies” so listen to them all, but I really like House of Cards (no, not the show).

Lastly, I’m sure any station you turn on is playing some song from Imagine Dragons.  Yes, their performance at the Grammy’s with Kendrick Lamar was everything and more.  But if you have not listened to the rest of their album “Night Visions,” you are missing out!  I love this album because the music is just phenomenal and their lyrics are amazing.  Best Tracks: Radioactive, It’s Time, Demons, On Top of the World, (honorable mention: Tip Toe)

Now that I’ve shared my favorite music, what about you?  What are you listening to?

– xo, A
