Late night television as we know it is about to lose another great TV legend. David Letterman, host of The Late Show since 1993, has announced that he plans to retire in 2015. Read on for more details.
Letterman announced the big news during a taping of his show last week.
We don’t have the timetable for this precisely down. I think it will be at least a year or so, but sometime in the not too distant future, 2015 for the love of God, in fact, Paul and I will be wrapping things up.”
Another late night legend, Jay Leno, wrapped up his show in February, with Jimmy Fallon as his replacement. Letterman’s announcement shocked the world for a moment, but then everyone became wrapped up with who HIS replacement would be!
Some suggestions include:
- Tina Fey
- Amy Poehler
- Ryan Seacrest (as if he doesn’t have enough jobs)
- Jon Stewart
- Stephen Colbert
- Conan O’Brien
- Dave Chappelle
- Ellen Degeneres
- Chelsea Handler
But of course, in the words of Leslie Moonves, the chief executive of CBS Corporation,
“There is only one David Letterman.”
You will be greatly missed, Dave!
Time to sound off! Who do you think would be the best replacement for Letterman?
Also…how can I get an audition for this? Better start practicing my monologue!
