Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock actor and comedian Tracy Morgan is in critical condition following a car accident early this morning. One person was killed and six other people were hospitalized for injuries. Read on to find out how the accident happened.
Morgan was in a limo bus leaving a show on his comedy tour in Delaware late Friday night when a tractor-trailer struck the car. Sgt. Gregory Williams of New Jersey State Police confirmed that the crash happened on the New Jersey Turnpike and that the limo driver did not cause the crash.
NJSP says the driver of the tractor-trailer failed to observe slow-moving traffic ahead. At the last minute, he swerved to try and avoid the Mercedes limo bus but struck it from behind, forcing the limo to rotate and overturn.”
Though Morgan’s condition was not expected to change today, his publicist said that “his family is now with him and he is receiving excellent care.”
Aside from the immediate support from his family, Morgan has received much encouragement on Twitter by some of his celebrity friends.
The latest update is that the Georgia man who drove the tractor-trailer has been charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto. One of the limo passengers, James McNair of Peekshill, New York, was killed.
I’ll be praying for Tracy that he makes a speedy recovery, as well as the others who were injured and of course, the family of the deceased, that they will find peace and comfort during this tragedy. RIP.
