Summer Somethings: Your Perfect Playlist

PicMonkey Collage2It’s officially summer for me!  A new season and tons of free time (minus my online classes, ew) means that I need a new playlist for chill days in my hammock and long road trips — so maybe you’re in the same boat! I have taken the liberty of composing a playlist of songs that are hot as the weather right now (in Florida, at least).  Whether you are a musical theatre geek, loyal to country music, or like to stick to the Top 40 charts, I think there’s something on here that everyone can enjoy.

P.S. I had planned to post this the other day but then I came down with the stomach flu and spent a few days in the hospital…sorry for my disappearance!

“Ghost Town” – Adam Lambert

I’m not really the biggest Adam Lambert fan around, but he deserves massive credit for this song, which he totally nails.  If he continues to make music this good, I’m on board.

“Sangria” – Blake Shelton

It would not be a perfect summer playlist without a Blake Shelton song!  I loooove this one; there’s something about the melody that I’m just obsessed with, and hopefully you will be, too!

“Pray to God” – Calvin Harris feat. Haim

I’m willing to bet that this is probably Taylor Swift’s current favorite song, considering it features her BFF trio Haim and rumored-boyfriend Calvin Harris.  Who could blame her; this song is so catchy.

“I Really Like You” – Carly Rae Jepsen

I really, really, really, really, really, really like this song.  Also, Tom Hanks is in this video.  Come on.

“Little Toy Guns” – Carrie Underwood

Yeah, the title is playful and the song sounds cute, but take a closer look at the lyrics and you’ll see that Carrie gets pretty deep here.

“Bright” – Echosmithechosmith

This might be the cutest song of the summer.  Echosmith hooked us with “Cool Kids,” and now they’ll do it again with “Bright.”  If you’re experiencing ~summer love~, this song will be a part of your go-to romance soundtrack.

“Worth It” – Fifth Harmony feat. Kid Inkfifth-harmony-bb3-2015-billboard-05-450

This is such a fun song to rock out to.  Pile into the car with all your closest girlfriends, turn up the volume, and get ready to JAM.

“Sparks” – Hilary Duffgallery_nrm_1424895687-cosmo-new

Hilary Duff is back and better than ever with a super funny TV show and some rockin’ new music. Single life has done her GOOD.

“Where Are Ü Now” – Jack Ü (Skrillex and Diplo) feat. Justin BieberJustin-Bieber-Skrillex-And-Diplo-Hit-Top-50-On-Hot-100-With-Where-Are-U-Now-665x385

The Biebs is also back!  Whether or not you’re into EDM, you can’t deny that this song has a great beat and the Biebs adds some soul.

“All I Ask Of You” – Josh Groban and Kelly Clarksonkelly-clarkson-and-josh-groban

When combined, Josh Groban and Kelly Clarkson’s voices create actual, literal magic.  It was hard for me to pick a favorite from Groban’s new album Stages,” so check out the album and decide for yourself!

“Biscuits” – Kacey Musgravesmaxresdefault

Kacey Musgraves continues to tell it like it is in her latest single.  The rest of this album is going to be amazing, y’all.

“Love Me Like You Mean It” – Kelsea BalleriniKelseaBallerini

Keep an eye on this girl, because I see her country career sticking around.

“Wild Child” – Kenny Chesney feat. Grace PotterKenny-Chesney-Philly-Grace-Potter

Kenny and Grace are another magical musical duo.  To every wild child, hippie heart, wanderlusting twenty-something — this one’s for you.

“Girl Crush” – Little Big Townlady-antebellum-little-big-town-acm-awards-2015-03

Probably the most controversial song this year…”Girl Crush” is actually not about a lesbian crush (but if it was, who cares?). Besides, everyone knows the term “girl crush” doesn’t mean you’re a lesbian. Anyway, give this song a listen and prepare to *facepalm* as you realize what LBT’s girl crush is actually like.

“American Oxygen” – RihannaRihanna1

Yeah, “Bitch Better Have My Money” is absolutely amazing, but hopefully you are already obsessed with that one. Check out Ri’s new song and fall in love all over again.

“Stitches” – Shawn Mendesenhanced-20310-1422661578-1

This guy is only 16 but he’s totally killing it so far.  He just released his album “Handwritten,” which debuted at number one, and he’s going on tour with Taylor Swift.  Not bad for someone who’s not even legal!

“Bad Blood” – Taylor Swift9ab39435-d7ee-4d6f-a9b0-c3f759c2bb62-479x720

Obviously you’re still jamming to “Blank Space” and “Style” on repeat, but check out Tay’s feisty new tune — rumored to be about Katy Perry — before her star-studded music video comes out on Sunday during the Billboard Music Awards.

“Georgia” – Vance JoyVance-Joy-2-MED

It took forever to choose a Vance Joy song for this list because his whole album “Dream Your Life Away” is phenomenal, but after watching a few of his videos, this one needs to be seen.  Check out his video in the link and then go buy his whole album so you can fall in love before you catch him on tour with T. Swift!

“Earned It” – The WeekndThe-Weeknd-Juno-Awards-2015

Confession: I am still loving this track from Fifty Shades of Grey.  And for good reason — it’s quickly climbing the charts.  Hopefully we can get another Weeknd song for the sequel!

“Goodbye” – Who Is Fancyjake-hagood-who-is-fancy-tonight-show-fallon-april-2015-billboard-650

For anyone looking for a breakup song this summer, this is it.  Who Is Fancy only recently revealed his identity, so now that the secret’s out, maybe he’ll bless us with more music like “Goodbye.”

“See You Again” – Wiz Khalifa feat. Charlie Puthmaxresdefault (1)

Even if you have yet to see Furious 7, you can likely still appreciate this sweet tribute to Paul Walker. I’m not crying, I’m not!!!

“Renegades” – X AmbassadorsBass_1306_v03_v1jm

Recognize this song from those Jeep Renegades commercials?  This track feels like summer to me.

“Homegrown” – Zac Brown Band462443920

Last but not least, it’s also not summer without a Zac Brown Band song.  Zac Brown enjoys the simpler things in life — chicken fried, a pair of jeans that fit just right, etc. — and in this song, he’s pretty content with some good company and whiskey straight from the bottle. Aren’t we all.

Let me know which songs you’ll be checking out and what songs I missed!
